Hellos and Goodbyes

Welcome Jada!

Young Black woman with shoulder-length hair

Please join us in welcoming Jada Sherman as our new climate and economic justice program officer for the Atlantic Coast. Jada will lead our grantmaking to support community-based groups advancing equitable clean energy and resilience solutions in ways that meet community needs, create scalable models, build power and momentum for just climate action in Georgia and the Carolinas.

Jada (she/her) is a passionate racial and social justice advocate who drives positive change through equitable access to cleaner and renewable energy sources. As a clean energy innovation fellow with the Department of Energy and through her previous role as an energy equity and inclusion associate with Solar United Neighbors, she has experience in grassroots organizing with diverse stakeholders, mobilization of community members, and advocacy for inclusive energy policies that prioritize the needs of underrepresented populations. In her role at the Hive Fund, Jada will support the development of sustainable energy solutions that promote systemic economic growth, workforce development, and green infrastructure in frontline communities throughout the Atlantic Coast. Jada attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where she received her B.S. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Political Science. Jada is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.

Farewell Jill

Jill Cartwright, center left, at her first gathering with grantee partners in Georgia.

At the end of April, the Hive Fund will say goodbye to Jill Cartwright, our inaugural Atlantic Coast program officer who for three years has helped shape and define our grantmaking in the region. Through Jill's sharp insights and deep relationship building, she laid a foundation for an Atlantic Coast strategy that resources and supports Hive Fund partners who are building power to transform their communities. Internally, Jill helped us keep our actions aligned with our values; made us laugh with her stories; and inspired us to step up our fashion game. We are sad to say goodbye, but we’ve always envisioned the Hive Fund as a place to nurture leaders that will take some of what they’ve learned and co-created here as they contribute to progress in other arenas. Jill will be doing just that as she transitions to a new position as Human Rights Program Officer with the Heising-Simons Foundation. We are so grateful for all the ways she has contributed to our growth and to the field, and look forward to seeing her do the same in her new role.

We have opened a search to fill Jill’s position. Please visit our careers page to learn more.
