Moving Forward With Courage and Commitment

Less than a year after we celebrated billions of dollars in federal funding for community-led climate solutions and a historic pause on new gas export projects, it feels like every aspect of the clean and just energy future we're working toward is under attack. In the last 100 days, we've seen the current administration’s willingness to throw communities of color and working people under the bus to fuel the profits of polluters, including illegally cancelling all of EPA's environmental justice grants and attempting to dismantle the Civil Rights Act.

But we and our grantee partners are used to working — and winning — in difficult terrain. We’re deepening our support for groups who are demonstrating the benefits clean, affordable energy can bring to everyday people, like our partners in Atlanta who delivered housing upgrades to 75 energy burdened households and graduated a cohort of building analyst technicians who will fill a gap in the local workforce. Other grantee partners in Houston completed a pilot project installing solar and batteries on 20 low-income homes, saving residents more than $600 per year on electricity bills. In addition to bringing down energy costs, these projects are piloting innovative financing and ownership models that are ready to scale with federal Solar For All grant dollars, which are still flowing.

In this critical window for action, we plan to mobilize our entire grantmaking budget of $25 million in flexible, multiyear support so our partners can unlock innovation and plan long-term — making 2025 one of our biggest funding years yet. We're also ramping up our support for tailored security measures and organizational wellness so our partners can take care of the people that make this work possible. We’re heartened to be able to stay rooted in courage and solidarity with our grantees, funders, and other partners as we press forward for the cleaner, more just energy systems we deserve.

In solidarity,

Our Updated Theory of Change Is Here!

The challenges we’re currently confronted with demand that we go all in on what we know works to build power, protect community health, and bring affordable, reliable, and scalable clean energy to households that need it most.

After a year of listening, learning, and refining, we’ve sharpened our strategic focus on accelerating the transition from dirty to clean energy in ways that center justice, redistribute power, and create healthier, safer, and more prosperous communities.

Huge thanks to all our partners and advisors who dedicated time and energy to explore how we collectively address the systemic inequities at the root of climate, gender, racial, and economic injustice.

Our team is growing! Adrian M. Pavone (he/they) has joined Hive Fund as our new program operations fellow. Adrian previously worked as a program manager with Arabella Advisors, where he provided administrative support to Hive Fund through our fiscal sponsor, Windward Fund. At Arabella, Adrian also served numerous global climate initiatives, providing funding to over 200 mission-driven partners. Please join us in welcoming Adrian!

Thank You

We are thrilled to welcome several new funders, including Lemon Street Fund and Patagonia. We are also grateful for renewed support from Every Page Foundation, Packard Foundation, Sobrato Philanthropies, and Zegar Family Foundation as well as the longstanding support of a number of generous anonymous individual donors. Your support helps ensure that Hive Fund and our grantee partners are well-positioned to weather this storm, protect collective progress, and keep pushing for the cleaner, more just energy systems we deserve.
