Announcing Stuart Clarke as Hive Fund's New Program Director
We are thrilled to announce that Stuart Clarke will be joining Hive Fund as our new program director. Stuart brings decades of leadership experience across philanthropy and environmental justice, including as a program officer at the Turner Foundation, development director at the Southern Partners Fund, program director at the William Penn Foundation, and executive director of the Town Creek Foundation.
“Stuart is a deeply respected leader whose values, experience, and steady leadership are exactly what this moment calls for,” said Melanie Allen, CEO of Hive Fund. “He brings a powerful combination of values-driven strategy and relational leadership that will strengthen our program team and deepen our partnerships across the South.”
Stuart will serve on Hive Fund’s Senior Leadership Team and lead the program team, helping align strategy, grantmaking, and learning across a growing portfolio. His leadership will play a key role in advancing investments that build people power, phase out polluting energy, and accelerate the transition to equitable clean energy in the US South.
“I’m honored to be joining Hive Fund at such a critical moment,” said Stuart. “Hive Fund’s commitment to resourcing frontline leadership and strengthening movement infrastructure is urgently needed, and I’m excited to learn from and work alongside this incredible team and its partners.”
Stuart's life, work, and vision have also been informed and enriched by volunteer leadership roles on the boards of Greenpeace US, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, and the Environmental Grantmakers Association. Stuart currently chairs both the Board of Trustees of Earthjustice and the Board of Trustees of the Energy Foundation.
Born and raised in New York City, Stuart has lived and worked in Texas, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C., and now resides on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. He was educated at Lafayette College and Yale University.
Stuart will officially join Hive Fund on March 9. Please join us in welcoming him to the team!
